Tommy Wirkola confirms a sequel of David Harbour’s film Violent Night
David Harbour’s Violent Night was a sleeper hit over the Christmas holidays, raking in over $75 million globally. The director of the Christmas action comedy, Tommy Wirkola, has confirmed that a sequel is in the works. Writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller are penning the script for the sequel too, with production set to start as soon as the scripts are completed. Wirkola added that the next film will include more traditional Santa Claus mythology such as the North Pole, Mrs Claus, and the elves. Looks like David Harbour will be donning the red Santa suit once more.
The original cast of Girls Trip returning for the second season
The girls from Girls Trip are returning for a second film and this time they are set to explore the West African country, Ghana. Writer Tracy Oliver revealed this news at the ongoing Sundance Film Festival. Will Packer, the film’s producer and Oliver decided on Ghana and they will be using this year’s Afrochella, an annual Coachella-Esque music festival in Ghana, to help them prepare for the film. The original cast of Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Tiffany Haddish, and Jada Pinkett Smith will be returning for the anticipated sequel.
Maya Hawke is set to lead in father Ethan Hawke’s Wildcat
Ethan Hawke has rounded up several A-listers for his upcoming film Wildcat. Oscar-nominee Laura Linney as well as Philip Ettinger, Rafael Casal, and Steve Zahn are attached to the project. The film will also feature his daughter Maya Hawke as Flannery O’Connor, the famed American novelist known for her sardonic Southern Gothic style of writing. Maya made her acting debut with the 2017 BBC adaptation of Little Women but is best known for her role in Stranger Things. Hawke is in charge of the film’s creative process with him serving as both the director and the writer. The filming for the film is currently underway but details regarding the release date are being kept under wraps.
Ben Affleck’s film Air gets a release date
Ben Affleck is shooting for a three-pointer for his next project, Air. Co-written by Affleck himself and his friend and frequent collaborator Matt Damon, the film centres around the early days of Air Jordan, a brand under Nike which started as a partnership with the then Chicago Bulls rookie, Michael Jordan. Affleck and Damon’s production company Artists Equity is teaming up with Amazon Studios for the project. The film will hit the theatres on April 5, 2023, and will later release on Prime Video for streaming.
Filming concludes for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
The Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has finally concluded the filming process. To celebrate this major milestone, several crew members took to social media to share the news. Among them was stunt coordinator George Cottle, who celebrated by posting a video with the caption” That’s a Wrap on Skeleton Crew!! Once again I was lucky enough to be surrounded by some of the most amazing stunt performers I have ever worked with!!…” Helmed by Spider-Man series director Jon Watts, the show revolves around 10-year-old kids from a tiny planet who get lost in the Star Wars galaxy and their attempts to return to their home planet.
Frankie Muniz is set to document his life as a Nascar driver
The actor-turned-driver Frankie Muniz is set to fulfil his dreams of racing in a NASCAR series. Best known for his roles in Malcolm in the Middle and Agent Cody Banks, the American actor will also be working on an all-access docuseries with NEO Studios. The series will be an in-depth depiction of his life as he balances his professional and personal life. The project will also include interviews featuring him with his family and friends. Muniz will be attempting to prove himself against the world’s best stock car racers in the NASCAR-owned ARCA Menards Series.
Upendra-Sudeep’s film Kabzaa is set to hit screens on March 17
R. Chandru’s film Kabzaa will be the first Kannada film of 2023 to get a pan-India release. The movie is expected to be released in around 6,000 theatres on March 17. The makers are paying a tribute to the late actor Puneeth Rajkumar by releasing the film on the same date as his birthday. Set in the 1940s, the film follows a gangster story featuring Upendra, Sudeep, and Shriya Saran in prominent roles.
