14 de Junho – A OMS, junto com o Ministério da Saúde Pública e parceiros, celebrou hoje o Dia Internacional do Dador de Sangue. Este dia visa homenagear a todos os doadores de sangue e conscientizar a população sobre a importância da doação de sangue, acto que é responsável pela salvação de milhares de vidas humanas.

Sob o lema deste ano  “Doar sangue é um acto de solidariedade. Junte-se ao esforço e salve vidas”, o evento teve lugar no Centro Cultural Português e contou com a presença da Dra. Mie Okamura, Assessora de Planeamento de Saúde na OMS, do Dr. Quiletche Na Isna, Secretário-Geral do Ministério da Saúde, do Sr. José Rui Velez Cardoso, Embaixador de Portugal na Guiné-Bissau, do Dr. Gentil da Silva, Presidente da Associação Guineense de Doadores Voluntários de Sangue (AGUIDAVS),  técnicos do Ministerio da Saúde Pública e um grade número de doadores voluntários.

No seu discurso, a Dra. Mie Okamura, em representação da OMS,  afirmou que “ O sangue seguro e a sua transfusão são aspectos fundamentais da prestação de cuidados de qualidade, uma vez que permitem salvar pessoas com lesões graves e as mães que sofrem de hemorragias durante ou após-parto. O sangue também é um elemento essencial para procedimentos cirúrgicos, bem como para o tratamento de anemia grave, hemopatias hereditárias, e outras patologias”.

Anunciou ainda que a OMS em parceria com o Ministério da Saúde Pública vai enviar para a semana a Directora do Centro Nacional de Sangue para uma missão a Portugal, com o objetivo “de reforçar a capacidade e desenvolver cooperação com as instituições Portuguesas na melhoria do serviço de sangue na Guiné-Bissau”.

Após os discursos, o Centro Nacional de Sangue, entregou diplomas a Instituções e Pessoas, que têm desempenhado um papel chave na doação de sangue, a OMS foi uma das organizações que recebeu esse diploma de honra ao mérito. Acto seguido, teve lugar uma campanha de doação de sangue, promovida pelo Centro Nacional de Sangue, em parceria com a OMS, Hospital Nacional Simão Mendes, o Banco Mundial, o Instituto Camões, o Instituto Marquês de Valle Flôr, a ONG AIDA, entre outros.

Dando o exemplo, a Dra. Mie Okamura, foi a primeira pessoa a doar sangue neste dia. Mais de 50 doadores voluntários estavam à espera para poderem, “juntarem-se ao esforço e assim salvarem vidas” na Guiné-Bissau
