I don’t just promote tourism in Nigeria but also learn about the history so that we can educate people in our society both home and abroad. We really need to Know more about our origin.

On Wednesday, the 27th of April 2022, I visited ORANMIYAN STAFF at Ile-Ife. Myself and omotosho left osogbo and got to Ife after 57minutes. Immediately we drop down from the bus, We enter by motorcycle to the Oranmiyan staff center #200.

At the entrance of the Gate, behold the beauty and the giant of the oranmiyan staff.

But I was not satisfied taking pictures because I needed to know how the staff was buried at that point and the story behind the staff.

The custodian of the shrine and staff in the person of Mr Moshud now asked me to drop something before getting the full story about the oranmiyan staff. Which I did. Mind you there was a gate fee before entry and before taking pictures you will still drop some money before getting closer to the staff to take pictures but the shrine is not allowed to go in by any stranger.

The full story of oranmiyan staff

Oranmiyan was born at Ile Ife
Odudawa is the father of oranmiyan.

When he gave birth to oranmiyan, he was a mystery being. Some parts of his body is white while the other is black.

And the king and people of Ife, were wondering what kind of child is like mystery being what oranmiyan means in English. So they understudy his growth accordingly.

During all his childhood he was brave and strong. He always went to the forest to hunt wind animals. He now chooses hunting as his job.

As he grew up the power also increased and people of other parts of the world started calling him whenever they had a war to fight.

Those communities he helped in winning war’s, he installed a new king for them. He also married from there.

He also helped the Benin kingdom to the Concord wars for them, which he got married there and gave birth to a child called “EWEKA”. Before he left Benin he made the child eweka king of the Benin kingdom and he returned back to ile-ife. To date, the power is still there.

After he returned from Benin and was thinking about himself he saids he can’t just stay this way without doing anything. He now consults the Oracle for these next steps.

There’s no other religions that time accept ifa

The ifa now tells him to be heading to another land that whenever his leg splits that will be his Destination to stay. So he started his journey to another land. He got to a particular land and his leg split and he named their OYO.

“The word split means YO In Yoruba language that where the name OYO Came from”

So he got married there and gave birth to two children there Named SANGO AND AJAKA.

Ajaka is the present Royal family house in OYO town today.

Oramiyan won different wars across the globe without any defeat and made a lot of impact and influence.

And some many years later he went back to check on some of them. Before he left Ile Ife to Oyo where he became the first king of Oyo.

The people of Ife ask him that whenever they have any challenge of war, how are they going to reach out to him?He told them that whenever they want to reach out to him they should reach out to his wife. He has already told his wife an enchanted word to reach out to him.

But human being will always be human being, the people neglected his wife and started sending word’s to oranmiyan himself to come ife but no response from him and they are doubting whether is not going to answer them or he’s no more and went to meet the oramiyan wife at Ife to call him for them and his wife obediently called him with the statement he put down for her and Immediately he heard the call from his wife and he left oyo to Ife he came through Ibadan axis through the back of the present day Obafemi awolowo university. At the entrance he saw some crowd and he started killing them thinking they were his enemies not knowing he was his own people. Some of them flew away out of fear.

Information got to the chief of ife and they reached out to him through his wife to stop killing his own people. They just wanted to know whether is going to answer them or not, that there is no war, that those people he’s killing are Ife citizens, he should stop it. He was so angry for the people of Ife to call him without a war. He quickly started healing the injured one’s.

Recall; Those that flew away came together and form their own community presently known aa the people of “IJEBU REMO”

When he got the information that some of the people of ife that flew away had formed from another town called Ijebu remo, he paid them a visit to make an oath not to fight a war again when he returned back to his own town.

When he returns back to life, he now buries the staff into the ground which is the present site of the ORANMIYAN STAFF. After burying the staff he went 2km back from the staff with his horse and turned to stone with his horse.

People do give sacrifices to the staff and shrine once a year but the shrine is forbidden for strangers.

That was to bring the name OLOJO FESTIVAL because of the incident that happened that day.

At the Ojolo festival in Ile Ife, some of the people of Ile Ife will paint some parts of their bodies white and the other part black that is how Oranmiyan looks when they give birth to him.

He now told them that whenever any requests come to him he is going to answer them.

Take note of my observation about the staff; When I touch the staff, I felt that was not the original staff maybe it was mounted by man made to show the world how Oranmiyan staff looks like because what I touch was like rock with sand mix together but the elders said to me, that is the real staff of oranmiyan that the size is not big like this. It was the termite ants that made it look like this.

I’m Dennis Chukwuebuka Okeke AKA Onye-njem one of AFRICA your number one celebrity Tourist. I promote Nigeria tourism to the world. Like I said before, tourism is my life. Try exploring these places if you are around Osogbo and Ile ife and hear the wonder’s of history. I hail oooo.
